How to optimize your biohacking journey in the Age of Aquarius

Get the Japanese Superfood List

Apologies for the brief hiatus from the blog – my focus has been on consistent YouTube uploads lately. If you’d like regular notifications, sign up for my newsletter using the link below. I send it out three times a week, coinciding with my video uploads.

Get the Japanese Superfood List

Now, let’s dive into the exciting era that is 2024 – the dawn of a spiritual renaissance. In Western astrology, a transformative 20-year cycle begins with Pluto entering Aquarius. This celestial movement, spanning from January 20, 2024, through September 1, 2024; November 19, 2024, through March 8, 2043; and August 31st, 2043, to January 19th, 2044, promises profound influence on our lives.

So, what does this cosmic shift entail?

Primarily, it heralds technological advancements and computer innovation. Building on the momentum of the AI surge, astrology suggests that this movement will propel even greater technological progress over the next two decades.

Beyond technology, a notable shift towards spirituality is anticipated, moving away from a materialistic culture to one that values the spiritual aspects of life.

Pluto in Aquarius signifies revolutionary energy. Historical periods with similar alignments witnessed monumental events like the American and French Revolutions and the Reformation of the Church. It symbolizes the overthrow of established powers, representing the fall of the apex of the pyramid.

In navigating this critical period in human history, it’s essential to consider the social implications when planning our personal biohacking journey.

As 2024 initiates this 20-year cycle, our biohacking strategies must align with the societal direction.

How will these shifts impact our health and longevity?

Explore these considerations with me in the video “2024 to 2044: Biohacking Blueprint for the Age of Aquarius”.

Longevity: Burden or Boon?

Get the Japanese Superfood List

Around a year ago, Yusuke Narita, an assistant professor at Yale, ignited controversy by suggesting that mass suicide might resolve Japan’s aging population crisis. While he later clarified his statement, emphasizing the need to make space for younger generations, his initial comment triggered concern among seniors and gained support among the youth, who feel overwhelmed by escalating healthcare expenses and the continued dominance of the elderly in positions of authority.

https://www.jpost.com/omg/article-731500

This scenario raises questions about whether the younger generation would be receptive to lifespan extension initiatives. Narita’s comments didn’t directly reference lifespan extension; they were rooted in the current dynamics of an aging society.

However, it’s plausible to assume that younger individuals feeling the strain of the current situation may not readily embrace the prospect of people living even longer than they do now.

David Sinclair addresses this very issue in his book, “Lifespan,” highlighting it as one of the common objections raised against extending human lifespans.

How should we approach this concern?

I delve into this topic in detail in the following video:

Bryan Johnson's Blueprint: A Spiritual Perspective.

Get the Japanese Superfood List

Recently, someone asked for my opinion on Bryan Johnson and his biohacking method, Blueprint. Initially unfamiliar with him, I delved into various videos, including some by Bryan himself, to understand his approach.

For those not acquainted with Bryan Johnson, here’s a brief insight: He’s distinct from Liver King, often a source of confusion. Bryan Johnson, a vegan, is an entrepreneur investing two million a year in biohacking. He diligently monitors every metric, from blood markers to bone density and cholesterol levels, all under his method, Blueprint. This approach stands as one of the most comprehensive and intense biohacking methodologies, verging on transhumanism. Bryan relentlessly pursues perfection, seeking the ideal paths for exercise, diet, sleep, and supplementation. He consumes around 100 different types of supplement pills daily.

Residing in Los Angeles, Bryan ensures minimal exposure to outdoor pollutants, maintaining superior indoor air quality through specialized air-conditioning. His home gym is adorned with forest-themed imagery to simulate a natural workout environment.

While I’m still learning about him, here are my thoughts based on my observations.

Initially, I wondered if altering human biology might contradict some divine blueprint, if such a thing exists. Could this lifestyle be considered blasphemy?

Yet, I also pondered whether this could signify liberation from a proverbial Matrix. Perhaps, for the first time, we’re understanding and breaking free from limitations once beyond our control. The idea of our helplessness might be a form of mind control by this hypothetical ‘Matrix’.

For more insights, check out the video:

Eating apples everyday vs. eating apples only in season.

Get the Japanese Superfood List

It’s cosmos season once again!

This Sunday, I returned to Satoyama cycling after a bit of a break. Lately, I’ve been keeping up with my zone 2 cardio routine, cycling less than before.

Here’s the current schedule I’m following: Monday is for jogging, Tuesday for Nordic walking, Wednesday back to jogging, Thursday for Nordic walking, and Friday is another jog. Each session lasts about 45 minutes, totaling 225 minutes of zone 2 training every week.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, I include upper-body bodyweight strength HIIT in my regimen. Thursdays involve sprinting and other lower-body strength exercises like step-ups and short trail running.

October is sports month in Japan, and I’m getting more active than usual.

I’ve also started incorporating seasonal apples into my diet. Eating fruit when it’s in season feels more aligned with Shindofuji, living locally and seasonally. While apples are considered a superfood, I believe that the benefits of this seasonal approach go beyond the nutrients you get from daily apple consumption. When we’re not having apples, we enjoy other fruits in season. If there’s a circadian rhythm, then there’s likely a seasonal rhythm, and eating out-of-season fruit might be akin to taking a cold plunge at night rather than in the morning, regardless of the inherent benefits of cold plunging.

Following the circadian rhythm, it’s best to expose yourself to deliberate cold in the morning and deliberate heat in the evening.

I’ve also started taking baths at night. During the summer, I mainly took cold showers and skipped baths.

Your activities can certainly shift with the seasons.

Here are some recent videos I’ve uploaded:

The relationship among natto, sleep, and fasting

Get the Japanese Superfood List

The reason why the Natto Belt in Japan is short-lived is to do with other dietary practices in the region, such as high salt intake, and not directly related to their natto consumption.

For details, please watch this video.

However, the way they eat natto may contribute to it or at least reduce the effect of natto on their longevity. The fact that they eat natto with white rice and they eat many bowls of rice.

In fact, not only in the Natto Belt, many people in Japan are not optimizing their natto eating. Many people are consuming natto in ways that reduce its health benefits.

For details, please watch this video.

Most natto lovers don’t practice intermittent fasting, either. It is such a waste. You are missing the benefits of spermidine.

Not many people are aware of the relationship between natto and sleep, either. In fact, natto, sleep, and fasting all come together as a synergetic combination.

For details, please watch this video.

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my junior high school class reunion in the picturesque city of Omachi, nestled in the heart of Nagano Prefecture. This gathering was particularly special as it marked our Kanreki celebration, a cherished tradition as we crossed the threshold into our 60th year of life. Remarkably, this celebration was postponed by a year due to the pandemic, making half of us proud 61-year-olds.

For this significant occasion, we adorned ourselves in vibrant red outfits, symbolizing this momentous milestone. It was my first time wearing the proper Kanreki celebration attire; on my actual 60th birthday, I had simply donned a red cap.

Surrounded by my fellow attendees, all of whom were Nagano locals, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. Nagano Prefecture and Shiga Prefecture, my home, consistently occupy the top two spots in the national average life expectancy ranking, signifying that we enjoy some of the longest lifespans in Japan.

Thus, the question lingered: who among us would appear the youngest after a decade apart?

Before reuniting, I yearned to partake in some highland hiking or invigorating jogging. After all, Nagano’s terrain is famously mountainous, with Omachi City situated at a lofty 600 meters above sea level.

I initially harbored ambitions of tackling a demanding trail running course designed for Rui Ueda, the world trail running champion hailing from Omachi City. This course boasted a formidable 2.25 km length, featuring a punishing 390-meter elevation gain. While the idea was incredibly tempting, I quickly acknowledged its impracticality. Trail running wasn’t something I had ventured into, especially not in the competitive context of a race. Nevertheless, the opportunity to tread the same path as the world champion beckoned irresistibly.

Yet, after a mere 40 seconds of uphill running, reality set in. Breathless and fatigued, I knew the summit was beyond my grasp. Picturing another grueling 2 km ascent, I recognized the futility of pushing further. With only an hour and a half remaining before the festivities, I didn’t wish to expend my energy on an unfinished challenge. So, I opted for a more manageable flat jogging route, still mindful of the elevation at 600 meters above sea level.

A fundamental aspect of longevity lies in acknowledging one’s limits and refraining from pushing beyond the brink of injury. While exercise is undoubtedly a boon to health, it carries inherent risks, necessitating a prudent approach that heeds the body’s signals.

Intriguingly, this trait of not overly competing and gracefully bowing out when needed might well contribute to our Japanese longevity. It’s an embodiment of listening to one’s body and understanding the value of restraint.

At the celebratory gathering, I couldn’t help but notice the youthful appearances of many of my old classmates. Being Nagano natives, some of them remain actively engaged in physically demanding work such as rice and vegetable cultivation. However, if I may humbly say so, I believe I emerged victorious in the “youthfulness” contest. As I listened to the health challenges others had faced, it became apparent that my medical record was, well, rather impeccable.

But then again, I suppose I ought to have an edge as an Ikigai Bio-Hacker.

As I look ahead to future visits, I find myself yearning to tackle that challenging trail running course. Naturally, I’ll need to put in some training back in Shiga first, perhaps even participating in a conventional marathon race.

In any case, my time in Nagano was nothing short of delightful, and I invite you to explore today’s video. It is about exercises for people over 60. What exercises are good to do when you eat natto?

Does natto support muscle hypertrophy?

I previously mentioned that natto is an excellent plant-based protein source suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

But what about those who aren’t vegans or vegetarians? What if you’re looking to build muscle?

Is natto a viable protein source for you?

Typically, bodybuilders and athletes aiming for muscle hypertrophy gravitate towards animal-based proteins such as chicken or eggs due to their higher protein content.

However, it’s worth noting that natto is gaining popularity among athletes in Japan, not solely due to its protein content but also because it offers additional benefits.

If you want to know those additional benefits, please watch this video.

The realm of longevity health often emphasizes the importance of working out, accompanied by various recommended fitness protocols. These guidelines detail how to execute low-intensity cardio workouts, high-intensity cardio sessions, strength training routines, as well as stretching and stability exercises.

However, for individuals not deeply immersed in fitness culture or those with limited athletic experience, these recommendations might feel somewhat intimidating or discouraging, don’t you think?

This brings us to a thought-provoking question: Is working out an essential component of longevity?

In my latest video, I delve into this very topic.

Do you do zone 2 training?

It is a low-intensity aerobic exercise such as jogging or cycling where your heart rate stays somewhere between 60 to 70% of your maximum.

It is recommended to do at least 180 minutes of zone 2 cardio per week.

That means doing 45 minutes of jogging four days a week or 60 minutes of jogging three days a week.

Can you do that much exercise?

In today’s video, I am delving into this topic.
