The Ikigai Diet and Bio-Hacking

It was a posture adjusting session day yesterday that I have once every two months. An acupuncturist called Kosuke Hirai comes to our house from Fukuoka and gives sessions to people in our town.

In the book Ikigai Bio-Hacking, I stated that I was not into measuring your condition through digital technology so much. One reason is that by constantly measuring your condition using data based on Western medicine, you become dependent on numbers and data, which might prevent you from developing your inherent senses to feel what’s happening in your body.

We have already lost touch with many of our senses due to our modern lifestyle.  It may not be a question of developing the senses, but rather maintaining the senses.

Having said that, I am not completely against measuring. It is important to know your condition and I recommend that you have a medical check-up once every three months. This is because it is said to take three months for our metabolism to change. You can do a stool test to check the condition of your gut microbiota, too.

Also, having regular sessions of alternative medicine such as Shiatsu and acupuncture is beneficial. You might say that it is also depending on a therapist, but I prefer this kind of face-to-face communication to using apps. That is the way we have always been doing and it is more than just measuring. You know the therapists and the fee you pay goes to someone you know rather than big international cooperations that developed apps.

On top of that, the therapists can teach you how to do it yourself.  They can show you which body parts you need to look at and what signs you need to pay attention to. Looking at your posture is one. If you look at yourself in the mirror, you might notice one shoulder is higher than the other. The head might be slightly bent. The knees may not be straight. The toes may not be straight. There may be more tension on the right side of the body than on the left side. There are so many areas to look at.

By learning those knowhows, you will develop the senses to understand your body. Those tools are within yourself. You don’t need any apps or equipment.
