I am not a doctor or a nutritionist, and nothing I write in this book guarantees a medical effect. So, why am I writing this book? There are many great books out there written by doctors, nutritionists, or food experts. Why do you need to read my book?
1, I am one of Shizenha people
The Ikigai Diet is based on the diet and lifestyle of Shizenha people, who are one of the healthiest people in the world, in my opinion. I am one of Shizenha people, and I have daily contact with them, which makes me able to provide accurate information about them. Sometimes you can’t find out about certain things just from interviews.
Quite often, doctors and other dietary experts don’t practice the diet they promote or have first-hand experience on it, but in my case, I practice this diet, and everything I wrote in the book is based on my own experiences. For example, I make natto and fermented brown rice every week, and I have been doing it for the past few years. I am in my late fifties now, but I haven’t had any problems at my medical checkups so far. People tell me that I generally look much younger, and I was diagnosed that my vascular age was twenty-one years younger.
2, I am a writer
I am not a medical expert, but I am a writer. I am good at gathering information and putting it in a book. Because I am not a medical or nutritional expert, I can have a broader vision and bring other perspectives into the book, such as social aspects or environmental aspects. Usually, medical experts don’t pay attention to those areas; they are too busy with their own research.
3, I am Japanese, and I speak English
Being Japanese, I am able to write about the Japanese dietary culture in detail from my daily observations and Japanese books. Unfortunately, most of the Japanese books published are not translated into English or any other languages, and you need to have a good command of Japanese to read them even if you can speak some Japanese. One of the reasons why Japanese information isn’t shared in English so much is that not many Japanese people can write in English. I can’t write well in English either, but at least I write better than the average Japanese people do.
Anyway, it isn’t the best book, but it is one of the few books available in English writing about Japanese natural dietary culture.
The Paperback version of the Ikigai Diet will be published on September 22nd.
