Shrine Decoration for the New Year

Get the Japanese Superfood List

We decorated our local shrine for the new year today since our group is in charge of the shrine this winter.

First, we tied Shimenawa, a tight rope, around Torii, the shrine gate. We made this Shimenawa ourselves about two weeks ago.

Then, we hung Kadomatsu at each shrine.

Yes, there are many small shrines within the shrine, each representing a different god.

And finally, we put Shimenawa around Goshinboku, the sacred tree of the shrine.
