Rubicon, an Enemy of Autophagy

I have completed the 12th week of my intermittent fasting routine. Finally, I have completed the first three months. It is perfect timing to enter the Golden Week, a Japanese long holiday from the end of April to the beginning of May.  Maybe I will take a week break from intermittent fasting.

But I will not eat fried chicken, because fried chicken can increase a protein called Rubicon.

What’s wrong with Rubicon?

According to Dr. Tamotsu Yoshimori, the author of Life Science Nagaikisezaruwoenaijidai no Seimeikagakukogi, Life Science: A Life Science Lecture for the Age When We All Have to Live Long, Rubicon suppresses autophagy.

Rubicon is increased by high-fat foods such as fried chicken.

That means we should stay away from French fries and fried chicken, fish and chips, or meat dishes in general.

Well, I suppose you all know that. These are the types of food you usually avoid anyway, and I have even listed them in Chapter 10 The Seven Foods that will Age You Faster in my book The Ikigai Diet. But now you know an additional reason why you shouldn’t.

So, in addition to restricting animal protein,  you want to reduce consuming greasy foods, to activate autophagy.

Mind you, you can eat them on your breaks, as long as you don’t eat too much. Remember, the Ikigai Diet gives you the option to indulge yourself from time to time, which makes the diet doable.

So, technically I can eat fried chicken during the Golden Week-haha.
