The Difference between 16 Hour Fasting and 24 Hour Fasting

I had feedback from my medical check-up which I took a month ago yesterday and the result was fabulous. I lost some weight and it was 56kg. I have always been thin but I used to weigh about 60kg. So it has been some progress. Well, I don’t know if it is good to lose weight in my case, but anyway, my body age was 34 years old, 25 years younger. And according to my wife, who used to be a nurse, all other numbers were good, too, so I can’t complain.

I did the second 24 hour fast yesterday. I finished eating dinner at around 7:30 on Tuesday night and didn’t eat until 7:30 last night.

The first time I did the 24 hour fast was at the summer solstice when I climbed a mountain.

24 Hours Fasting

In the last 3 month period, I practiced vegetables only lunch on Wednesdays. So, I didn’t have carbs and protein for 24 hours. Well, actually it was about 22 to 23 hours since I had dinner 1 or 2 hours earlier than the time I finished eating dinner the previous night.

In this 3 month period, I have decided to skip lunch entirely to do a complete 24 hour fast on Wednesdays, and it was the first Wednesday yesterday.

It was harder than having vegetables for lunch but it was doable.

Why do I want to do 24 hour fast once a week? Isn’t 16 hour or 17 hour fast enough?

I think it is enough, and I don’t think most people need to do 24 hour fast if you are already doing 16 hour fast or 17 hour fast. I just want to try doing it as an experiment.

Dr. Mindy Pelz says the amount of time you fast gives you different cleaning benefits; 16 hours, 17 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. She recommends that you usually fast for 17 hours, and once or twice a week fast for 24 hours.

16 hour fasting has the following benefits.

fat burnings begin,

human growth hormones,

reduced inflammation,

increased ketones,

and improved energy and focus

17 hour fasting has the following

cellular detoxification,

cellular repair,

improved immune function,

and cancer prevention

She says that autophagy is activated after 17 hours and she calls it autophagy fasting. Other people say that autophagy is activated after 16 hours, so I don’t know exactly how long we need to do it. I am doing 17 hour fast to be safe.

According to Dr. Mindy, 24 hour fasting has the following benefits.

reboot intestinal stem cells,

reduces trymethylamine n oxide,

and increase longevity and survival.

For details, please watch this video.

She says that you can do 24 hour fast once a month, too, so I think once a month is enough if you are doing 17 hour fast regularly and doing exercises like walking and HIIT. You don’t want to do too much.

I am just testing to see how hard it is to do it once a week. Probably the longer you do the more effect you have in repairing your different functions in the body, but doability is important. You just have to juggle your priorities. Do you want to repair your cells completely or do you want to relax?
