Camping in Your Yard in Satoyama

We camped in the yard of our house in the mountains during the last long weekend. Yes, we have another house in the mountains where we used to live. We wanted to go camping at a nearby camping ground but it was full, which was surprising considering the pandemic, but anyway, we decided to go to the old house, instead. We could camp in our yard, too, but the house in the mountains was only an 8-minute drive, plus it was right next to the camping ground we wanted to go to, so, the atmosphere wise, it was easier to convince my son.

That is one of the perks of living in the countryside, you get to use your yard as a camping ground.

There is nothing like drinking beer surrounded by trees.

In the new edition of The Ikigai Diet, there is a chapter on Satoyama living where I introduce the Satoyama lifestyle as one of the factors of health and longevity. Satoyama living is a common lifestyle among Japanese long-lived prefectures Nagano, Shiga, and Okinawa.
