The Ikigai Diet and Bio-Hacking
The Golden Week is over now, and we are back at our regular schedule.
Now that I have completed 47 kilometers Hinoichi Satoyama Nordic walking, I would like to try Biwaichi cycling as part of my 60-year-old birthday commemorating events. Biwaichi means cycling around lake Biwa, which is the biggest lake in Japan.
One of the reasons I haven’t done it yet even though I have been waiting to do it for many years is that it usually takes two days to do it. Since I do a lot of things around the house, staying away from home for two days isn’t easy.
However now, I found out that it was possible to do it in one day.
There are two routes for Biwaichi. One is 200 kilometers route, cycling around the entire lake, including the bottom part. The other one is 150 kilometers route, crossing Biwako Ohashi. To do the first route you need two days, but for the second route, you can do it in one day.
It takes 10 to 12 hours but it isn’t impossible. If you start at 6 AM. you will be able to finish around 4 PM. to 6 PM. You should always check the details of the things like that. I had been just taking people’s word for it that you need two days to do it, but didn’t calculate exactly how long it takes to cycle. What many of them meant was to cycle comfortably including some sightseeing, you need two days. Well, I don’t need to stop at certain locations to do sightseeing since I live in Shiga, I can do that on other occasions.
It is going to be a big challenge for me because I have never cycled 150 kilometers in one day. Although I go Satoyama cycling from time to time, I am not a so-called cyclist. I don’t have a road bike and I don’t cycle long distances. I will do Biwaichi on my mountain bike.
I’ll see what happens.
