What did I do to welcome the new year instead of visiting a shrine? I read a novel by Haruki Murakami. It was something I wanted to for a long time and hadn’t been able to do, I just hadn’t had time for pure entertainment reading. Every book I read last year was for my research. You know I have been busy writing all the time, I published a book in January, and right after that I began writing the next book and published it in March and then I began writing the Ikigai Diet and published it in September and I had been updating my blog every single day since then until December 26.
So, for the first time in a long time, I read a book just for pleasure. Mind you, I do enjoy reading books for my research, too, and yet, it is different from entertainment reading.
It was fabulous lying on the sofa by the wood-burning stove, reading the novel. I had Jazz FM 91 on, and a glass of Scotch whiskey. I don’t know if you have ever read Haruki Murakami, but the main character often drinks whiskey in his novels, and it is the case. in this novel Killing Commendatore.
I usually do my Kamion Kansha meditation at several shrines in the new year, which is a sacred thing to do and it is good to start a year this way, but this time, since it is the beginning of the Air Age, I felt I could even release it and relax.
Anything can be sacred, it is all up to how you interpret it.
