The Ikigai Diet is based on the Lifestyles of the Longest-Lived Regions in Japan

I updated the YouTube channel page. I made the introduction video to the channel.

I am learning slowly about those online functions. I am not good at computers and the internet in general. Well, I’ll be 59 this year, not a generation brought up with the technology. I have had my other Youtube channel for over a decade, and yet, hadn’t made such an introduction video. I didn’t know how to do it.

Anyway, having the opening video, now it is clear for the visitors what the channel is all about.

Hi, my name is Sachiaki Takamiya. I am the author and the founder of the Ikigai Diet, the secret Japanese diet to health and longevity. It is based on the lifestyles of regions which are known to be the longest lived prefectures in Japan, Nagano, Shiga, and Okinawa.

You have probably heard of Okinawa since it is one of the blue zones, but in Japan, it was back in 1980s when Okinawa was regarded to be the land of longevity. Recently prefectures like Nagano or Shiga are more well known as healthy prefectures being ranked within the top three in the national prefectural ranking.

And there is a common element to those three regions and other long lived prefectures, that is Satoyama lifestyle. It is a lifestyle in the countryside where people live sustainably circulating local natural resources.

It is based on Washoku, but natural food in Washoku. We have a long history of the natural food movement in Japan. It kind of began somewhere around 700 years ago with Shojin Ryori a diet practiced in Zen monasteries. At the beginning of the 20th century, Sagen Ishizuka started a Shokuyokai movement, which leads to the birth of the macrobiotic diet. You have heard of the macrobiotic diet right? It is well known worldwide. Since then, the natural food movement has kept evolving. We have KosoGenmai, MAGOWAYASASHII, ZAkokumai, and so on.

Basically, I created the Ikigai Diet based on my research on the long-lived regions and the Japanese natural food movement.

I am Japanese and I live in a small country town in Shiga prefecture, Japan practicing Satoyama lifestyle. In this channel, I share with you tips on diet, exercises, Satoyama lifestyle, and ikigai mindset, which all help you with your wellness and longevity. Especially what is catching on right now among the Japanese naturalists.
