Japanese Natural Philosophy

Japanese Natural Philosophy is a base of Japanese healing arts, martial arts, diets, and spirituality. It is influenced by Chinese natural philosophy such as Shenxian Thought and Taoism. When we talk about Japanese natural philosophy, it all comes down to nature. The practitioners of Shugendo, which is based on Japanese natural philosophy, trained in the mountains, and the main source of this philosophy is nature. Nature is expressed everywhere in Japan. The Japanese old calendar is a lunar calendar and it lists many seasonal events. That is why we climb a mountain on days of equinoxes and solstices, and we celebrate full moons by sitting outside and viewing the moon with drinks and snacks.
