Is Optimization Always Good for Your Health and Longevity?

At the end of the video, I uploaded last week,

I said I would talk about optimization in the next video. Whether it is always good to optimize your health strategies.

This is because optimization is often stressed in biohacking, and many people, including myself, talk about how to optimize your diet, fasting, and exercise. Every week, a new piece of evidence came up and you are recommended to upgrade your method.

It is good to measure your strategy and keep improving it, yet don’t you think the whole optimization business is a little over the top?

It kind of reminds me of the computer, where you are constantly asked to upgrade.

Doesn’t it come from the same mindset of seeking to be the best? The kind of competitive mindset ingrained in the Western culture that I talked about in Ikigai Bio-Hacking.

Optimization isn’t the same as competition, since you are not competing against anybody else, you are trying to improve your performance within yourself, yet,  I feel it has a similar element when it becomes a kind of a cultural obsession.
